Photo Ads Overview
We have seen that the creative gets more engagement if the creative type is totally new or it is not even regarded as an ad. Photo ads are one way to create a different kind of creative for Facebook ads.
This article is describing how to create Photo Ads in regular campaigns. Many of advertisers have found Photo Ads already when using Automated Post Boosting and that is an alternative way to create ads out of Photo posts.
Example of how it might look:
Limitations
Placement limitations:
- Works only with Facebook mobile and desktop newsfeed.
- At the moment does not work with Right-Hand Side, Instagram (any placement), Instant articles or Messenger (based on testing)
Design:
- Image ratio: 4:3
1) Creating Photo ads with normal campaign creation
Campaign Creation → Select "Ad Creatives" → Select (Creative type) Photo
2) Using existing posts as ads
You can create the posts in Publishing tools (in Facebook) as scheduled posts and those are then usable in Smartly.io with ads (without publishing posts to page timeline). You can find Publishing tools when you navigate to the Facebook page that you manage.
You can upload one or multiple images to the post at once to get different looks to your post. You have to remember to add the call to action link to the message of the post as the posts can't have direct links to your website. Clicking the posts just open larger image to the screen.
When you have created the draft post to Facebook publishing tools you can wait for 30 minutes for it to appear in the list or fetch it directly with an post ID (this shows the post instantly after creation).
How does it look like with multiple images?
Facebook creates a collage when you upload 2-4 images. You can see how it looks below:
