Adding a tag to your message allows you to reference or mention another page or user in your ads. When you mention someone, a link to that page is created.
A typical use-case for tags is to mention someone you are collaborating within your ads.
This is how tags look on Instagram and on Facebook:
How to tag in Facebook ads
ℹ️ Note: Tags work differently on Facebook and Instagram.
To create a tag within your Facebook ads, start by creating a page post ad. Then, add @[page-id] as part of the message of the post and the page tag will show.
For example: @[571810332841952]
How to find out the Facebook ID of a page
There's two ways to find out your page's Facebook ID:
- Check the id of the page that you want to use from the Settings tab → Pages & Applications. The id of the page is the Facebook ID number.
- Navigate to the Facebook page, and right-click the profile picture. Then select "copy link address" (on Google Chrome). The page FB ID is then the first number in the URL on your clipboard.
You also need to allow your page be tagged on Facebook.
ℹ️ Note: Only admins of the page can see these settings.
How to tag in Instagram ads
ℹ️ Note: Tags work differently on Facebook and Instagram.
You can create Instagram ads with a person's instagram handle tagged. For this, add @instagramhandle as part of the message of the post and the Instagram handle will show.
E.g: @myinstagramhandle
Please note that you cannot tag Instagram users in a Facebook ad or Facebook pages in an Instagram ad. For this you will have to set up two separate creatives.
Tagging a Facebook app on Facebook
Give permission to your page on the app settings tool. For this, pages_messaging needs to be enabled.
