Static Image Templates will be deprecated during Q2 2021 as the to use the new Creative Editor is replacing the old Image Templates. Customers should start to use Static Exports from the new Creative editor instead.
Image templates can be used as well in Ad Creatives and be applied in a Regular Campaign or Reach & Frequency Campaign, the usage differ on how the templates are applied in Automated Ads or Dynamic Ads but the templates are compatibles and can be clone easily to be used in different formats and Campaign types.
When you use an Image Template in Automated Ads or Dynamic Ads campaign the template is linked to a Feed or a Catalog and the template content (images or text) is filled dynamically for each Ad. In a Regular Campaign, when you want to create an Ad Creative with an image you can select manually one from your Image Library or upload a new one, but it is also possible to use an Image Template to generate a new Image and save it to your Library and your Ad Creative.
Using an Image Template in a Regular Campaign
As said before, when you want to use an Image Template to generate a new image for your ad creative in a Regular Campaign or Reach & Frequency Campaign you won't be using a Feed or Catalog to fill the content of the template, so you will need to add text and images manually or edit the ones that you added in the Image Template Editor when you created or cloned the template. If you want to do this automatically you can set up a Feed and use Automated Ads.
Step 1: Select an image template in your Ad Creative
In any creative that you can select an image, you can also use an image template to generate a new image. The use cases are multiple, could be that you need to resize an image to the correct Ad Creative format or you want to add some text, price, or logo information to enrich your original image.
In order to do this, you will see an option to select an Image Template instead of an Image, after you select the image template from a library that you will use it to generate a static image, you must click on Create image to add or edit any of the content of the template.
Step 2: Fill the content of the template and Save it
Now you can open the view to edit the content of the template and generate your image, changing the values here won't edit any of the data of your Image Template but will only generate an image preview that you will save in your Library. After you are happy with your result you will click Save content and the image that you see will be saved to your Library and added to your Ad Creative.
Note that if you Edit your Image Template, later on, it won't update any Ad Creatives where you used the image template because it only generates a static image that is used in your AdCreative like if you would add a normal Image from your Library. If you want to generate a new updated Image you need to Edit the Ad Creative and click Edit content under the Image Template Selector.
Step 3: Copy Image Template to all Creatives variations
If you want you can copy the generated Image and the Image Template information to all Creatives by clicking the Copy icon next to the Image Template selector, this can be also useful if you want to create Carousels in an Ad Creative with the same template and format and edit only the content of one of the layers of the template. You can first select the template, fill the content and generate the image in the first Carousel or creative and then click the icon to copy to the rest of Carousels or Creatives, then you can just go the other Carousels or Creatives and edit the content to do only the minimum changes that you want and click Save content again, this will save and generate a new Image only to the Carousel or Creative that you are currently editing.
Creatives that allow using Image Templates
You can use these Image Templates in any Creative that allow uploading or using an Image from the Library for example:
Image Templates can be used when creating a Collection Ad from Catalog and the usage is divided into two cases.
First, the Hero Image (main media of the Ad) can be also generated using an Image template as with the other creatives and the image will be saved in your Image Library
Second, the Thumbnails that are the small pictures in the Collection Ad are selected from a Catalog and a Product Set and you can apply to those a different Image Template that is assigned to the given Catalog. This won't generate a new image in your Image Library and you won't need to fill the template content as it will be filled automatically from the Catalog information. This works in the same way that when you create a Dynamic Ads Campaign and apply an Image Template to the Product Images, the templates that you can select for the Product Set are those listed under Library - Image Templates - Dynamic Ads
Slideshow generator for Videos
You can use an Image Template to generate any of the images in the Slideshow creation, if you don't select an Image Template and click on the + you will open your Image Library to select an image, if you select an Image Template it will open the view to Fill the Template and you can generate a new image as described before. You can apply different templates in the Slideshow per each picture or just select some of the pictures from the library if you click on the x and remove the selected image template. For better results, we recommend select Transition None when using the same template for all the images so the result will look more like a Gif where the nonchanging content stay and only the different content of the images changes.
