With categories for dynamic ads, you can show people different categories or brands (instead of individual items) you sell in a single ad unit. The ads are based on your product catalog and automatically personalized to show the categories each user is most likely interested in. This is a great way to reach people who are getting to know your brand and what you sell.
No changes to catalogs or feeds needed
To get started, follow these simple steps:
- In a dynamic ads campaign (with a product catalog), choose Show item categories on the Creative Templates tab.
- Choose the field in your catalog to be used to segment it. The options are:
- Brand
- Google Product Category
- Product Type
- Click Edit categories to open the category editor. Define a custom headline and a destination URL for each category. Optionally, you can also provide a custom lifestyle image for each category. (Note that the image has to be hosted online first—contact our support if you need help.) If no image is provided, Facebook can automatically render a collage from 4 products in the category.
- Choose the media type: whether custom category images, automatic collages or automatic slideshows are prioritized in the creative.
FAQ
Do I have to provide information for all the categories?
No, but note that if you don't provide a headline and link for at least one category, the feature will not work. Categories without headlines and links are not shown in ads. We recommend that you prioritize your most important categories.
Why am I not able to select a certain category type?
The catalog field used for segmenting has to have at least 4 unique values in order to be used as the category type.
Can I use my dynamic Image Templates for this?
Currently, you cannot use Image Templates in categories for dynamic ads. This is only available for regular dynamic ads or Automated Ads campaigns.
